GlycoBodies
Since the early days, Glycotope has had a focus on therapeutic antibodies (GlycoBodies) directed against tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens (GlycoEpitopes) combining the high affinity of a peptide-backbone target with the high specificity of a carbohydrate-target.
Glycotope’s lead antibody PankoMab-GEX is an example, where the high affinity for the well established tumor marker MUC1 is combined with a specifity for a sugar attached to the protein backbone on tumor-cells only (the TA-MUC1 epitope). As a consequence, despite the high prevalence of MUC1 on healthy cells throughout the human body, binding of the antibody to MUC1 (but not TA-MUC1) is virtually absent.
