GLYCOTOPE GmbH is a biotechnology company specialized in Glycobiology and Cellular Engineering. GLYCOTOPE combines its expertise in drug development, analytics, glycobiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, antibody engineering and immunology to develop own innovative pharmaceutical therapeutics and nutrition additives and to offer state-of-the art services.

GLYCOTOPE business activities focus on customized services in Protein Expression, GlycoEngineering and GlycoAnalytics. GLYCOTOPE has developed cellular and molecular glycosylation platforms and offers a full range of glycoanalytical techniques in-house and in combination with a network of specialists.

Recently GLYCOTOPE expanded its service portfolio by acquiring experienced research and development teams from our partner NEMOD.

The new services include antibody engeneering (e.g. fragments, chimerization, humanization), radio-labelling, preclinical in vitro and in vivo tests, and various cellular and humoral immunoassays.

With these new services we complement our state-of-the-art glycobiological technologies and are now able to provide complete R&D solutions out of one experienced hand.

GlycoEngineering is our technology to generate new expression cell lines with defined glycosylations.

GlycoExpress is our novel biotechnologically suitable expression platform which allows the generation of proteins with fully human glycosylation, higher activity, optimized pharmacokinetics or reduced dosing. This technology is ideal for a critical improvement of a pharmaceutical protein product or for the development of a more effective new generation of generic blockbusters with a new patent protection.

Biomolecules, their glycosylation, and the glycosylation machinery of a production cell line can be structurally analysed by the whole range of glycoanalytical methods using the GlycoAnalytics and GlycoProfiling technologies.

A series of cellular and molecular bioassays and pharmacokinetic studies provided by us and our partners allows evaluation of the functionality of that products.

GLYCOTOPE’s first own products are:

1. a new generation of a generic growth factor with a manifold higher bioactivity, developed using the GlycoExpress technology.
2. The second product under development is a nutrition additive with tumor prophylactic properties based on probiotic carbohydrates.

GLYCOTOPE was founded in February 2001 by Dr. Steffen Goletz, Chief Scientific Officer of NEMOD Biotherapeutics and former head of a research group at the Max-Delbrück-Centre for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, and Dr. Andreas Eckert, CEO and founder of Eckert & Ziegler Strahlen- und Medizintechnik AG. The dynamic company is financed through its Research & Development services and a private financier.
